Re: Average score per match and cycle times

Math and observations. We were counting the number of cycles and so we could see how many were happening for different levels of performance. In 2013 some teams got up to 7 and 8 cycles in Champs! So...

Re: Two successful fundraising strategies to share

Students call between 3 and 5 pm when they were out of school. Mentors didn't do any of this calling. Schools also have more holidays than businesses.

Two successful fundraising strategies to share

Until this year, we've always been on the edge for getting our finances together in the fall. We started this year much better prepared and have been much more successful. We now stand at 75% of our...

Was this supposed to be a friendly event???? :ahh:

Re: Scouting as an Aliiance Captain

The best solution is to set up a team of at least 6 to 8 scouts to follow the scoring and actions on the field. This is MUCH more important than pit scouting--if you have to choose, do field...

Re: Average score per match and cycle times

After watching the 2012 and 2013 games, we estimated that a fast robot can run a full court scoring cycle about 4-5 times early in the year and up to 6 to 7 times by Champs. Worked like a charm for...

Re: California District Proposal, Rev 2

California is unusual compared to other states. Until the 1970s "state" championships were the exception rather than the rule; Section champs were frequently the final stop. Even now at least 4 of 23...

Re: Capital City Classic 2016 - Registration Open

Yes, but we've been busy prepping for several other events the last couple of weeks. We'll have more time after MTTD.

Re: The Best Team(s) to Never Win an Official Event

Ah, yes forgot about 1323. In 2016, their only losses in eliminations were in 2 Regional finals and the Division final to alliances that included 1678 (3) , 971 (1) and/or 254 (1). But remember that...

Re: The Best Team(s) to Never Win an Official Event

Ditto. 3250 is on the verge of breaking through. 3859 is showing promise too.

Maybe 973 can win an event without sandbagging... ;^)

We still would have picked 118...:)

Re: Chezy Champs 2016

I second this thought. I don't think others appreciate the great effort that the Poofs went to in putting on an event that's every bit as good as a Regional. And we didn't appreciate that a fully...

Re: Best Robots Not To Qualify For Champs

Ditto. They almost made it at Sac. They really improved in their second Regional. They're a strong argument for Districts in CA. ;^)

Re: Best in your State/Region

All I can say is even when we improve, we still can't close the gap on 254!! And it was kind of nice being able to win those events without having to actually play!:D

Re: Best in your State/Region

Nice job, but apparently 1678 didn't play enough in 2016 to generate an average OPR (although we did have a maximum)...

Re: Idea to Balance Championship Divisions

I agree. The problem with division stacking is not who wins the title, but rather who gets the opportunity to play for the title. The best example is this year comparing Curie to Newton. There were...

Re: Moving Championships back

Wow, that's amazing that LA is so out of sync with the rest of the country. I see the state track championship (http://www.lhsaa.org/sports/sports-directory/spring/outdoor-track) is the first weekend...

Re: Moving Championships back

One answer is that Districts would solve that problem directly. Both MN and TX seem to be considering this option.

The second is to push the state champs to after the FRC Champs (or Super...

Re: Moving Championships back

A later end to the season is not such a crazy idea--can we say "spring sports?" Almost every high school in the US has state championship events i late May and early June. (I think Texas may be an...

Re: (Seemingly) Irrational alliance selection decisions?

Yes, we have two different sets of criteria, and they are actually more distinct at Regionals than at Champs. Typically we assume that our 2nd pick will add little on offense in teleop to the other...
