Re: pic: CGX-115, cam-counterweighted cycloidal drive

Wouldn't it be a 28*29:1 = 812:1 gearbox then? The output 'stage' has 30 pins therefore 29 lobes and the input has one less lobe.

Re: pic: CGX-115, cam-counterweighted cycloidal drive

That's really clever. I had the cad open on the grabcad site but the explosion was clear enough to get me to (mostly) figure out what was going on.

Just clarifying; because of the difference in...

Re: pic: CGX-115, cam-counterweighted cycloidal drive

As I understand this mechanism, the cyclodial gear nearest the cim drives against the mounting plate of the cim, which would be fixed against the main structure of the bot. The other cyclodial gear...

Re: pic: OmniSwerve Pivot Top View

I haven't run FMEA as it's not a design I really plan on using but they're 7075-T6 vexpro gears.

Re: pic: OmniSwerve Pivot Top View

The design assumed use of a CNC router so that would be used to do the pockets (multiple passes, depth of cut isn't that great but its certainly doable). I also made sure not to pocket it all the way...

Re: pic: OmniSwerve chassis Bottom View

The triangle design is a byproduct of maximizing motors and minimizing other complexity. Minimum amount of wheels to be fully supported is 3 and maximum reasonable amount of CIMs is 6. It also...

Re: pic: OmniSwerve Pivot Top View

The casing probably isn't adequately concentric with the shaft so the gear spacing could be pretty significantly off. That said, peoples get away with 10-32 screws in loose fit holes for gear spacing...

Re: pic: OmniSwerve chassis Bottom View and Concept Discussion

This was entirely my own project and an excellent opportunity to brush up on CAD. I figured Chief Delphi posters in general would also enjoy this kind of thought exercise but apparently not.

Re: pic: OmniSwerve chassis Bottom View and Concept Discussion

drive straight to max speed, turn left at 90 degrees and accelerate in that direction to max speed. Because of the omni wheels, you actually (ideally) don't lose your forward momentum after turning...

Re: pic: OmniSwerve chassis Bottom View and Concept Discussion

The way I have it is they all point in the same direction. You can tank turn in any orientation by simply driving one side forward and one side back. Only the pivots are chained together not the...

Re: pic: OmniSwerve chassis Bottom View and Concept Discussion

You'd have one and a half times as much power in any direction ,assuming a power if 1 unit per wheel you'd get 2*cos(30)+1*cos(90)=1.73 to 1*cos(0)+2*cos(60)=2 for kiwi and 3*1=3 for omniswerve. If...

Re: pic: OmniSwerve chassis Bottom View and Concept Discussion

"hypothetical" might be a better term for that. This unit is geared pretty low (free speed at 14.9 fps) so the acceleration on 6 CIMs should be pretty good. The lateral resistance of omni wheels is...

Re: Most underrated/undervalued tools

This thread has very quickly gone from underrated tool to favorite tool (I'd even call a lot of these tools overrated). The best answer I've seen is the vacuum cleaner. (basically) Every team needs...

http://www.amazon.com/Park-Tool-Screw-Type-Chain/dp/B01EONOJ78 for 35 or 25 chain. It's the best chain tool I've yet used for any chain.

Re: Stronghold rant...

My 2 cents about the game, as an alumni who was not deeply invested in the competition this year (mostly a spectator):

Themed game diminished the "sport" feel that, IMO, FIRST should be going for. I...

Re: Are Fans Pneumatic Devices?

It's semantics I know, but technically any wheel damages the carpet by regular driving. Then the discussion is "what is significant enough to consider" and we're basically back where we started,...

Re: Are Fans Pneumatic Devices?

This is an engineering regulation, not specifically first. IIRC pneumatic systems don't need certification if they operate below 15PSI. (I was googling around and can't find a source, my value could...

Re: Are Fans Pneumatic Devices?

As I recall, if your pneumatic systems remain under a certain pressure you don't need any lisence or regulation for safety (for things like baloons or other similar low pressure things, I forget the...

Re: Removing tread from colson wheels

You aren't going to be able to effectively remove the hub, boring it out is the only option if you really need the colson tread.

As an alternative to the colson tread, vexpro sells "traction tires"...

Re: Aluminum taper-lock HTD pulleys

Not exactly the same but I know fairlock hubs can be used in a similar fashion (generally .125-.375in shafts) I believe 254 used them in 2014 on their intake "gearbox" (which used belts, not gears)....
