Re: Exposed gears/chain
I'm all for guards, build them all the time. But proper hand saftey must still be taught and enforced at all times.
Probably 80% of belt and chain injuries I've seen in industry have been during...

Re: 6 gauge wire for battery
I try to stay away from that automotive audio stuff, sometimes it good quality, other times it's pretty crappy wire.
You can get class k welding cable cheaper anyway.
Just don't use the KOP set...

Re: where do you source your power wire
I second Automation Direct. I buy MTW from them in semi truck sized quantity.
Mcmaster has a good selection of MTW/TEW too, that's usually where I order our 22 and 20 from.

Re: Diode for Radio Power
Enforce a 100% test policy and instill proper habits in the students instead of bodging in a diode. Everyone that is involved in the wiring should be able to use the DMM and check for proper...

Re: Connector Question
Legal, yeah. Good idea eh...
Anderson powerpoles are the industry standard for this type of connector. Not only is the bulk of their product UL listed and tested to various UL standards they also...

Re: Good Material For Bottom of Chassis
I like a nice piece of aluminum or steel/stainless. We've been doing 1/4" aluminum lately.
But I'm a control panel guy, I'm pretty attached to my metal back plates and my Greenlee DTAP kit.

Re: New main battery connectors allowed
Oops I meant pounds, not sure why I put foot in front.
But that is just the minimum spec. Every power pole I've ever installed took a great deal more when new.

Re: New main battery connectors allowed
I didn't look at ours yet but the kids mentioned they were hard to get apart. If they are high force contacts they take about 15 pounds minimum to separate.
You can get grips for the SB series to...

Re: New main battery connectors allowed
Sounds like a solution looking for a problem.
I had a service truck with an SB50 mounted to the front bumper, I did bad things to that little connector, hard jump starts, an electric winch in the...

Re: Looking for slip rings and distributors
A piece of equipment I service used to use the Mercotac connectors, had one blow during a fault. The plant's Hazmat team got to put their mercury cleanup procedure to use.
Had that been at an event...

Re: How does your team crimp terminals?
I use my trusty Klein 1005 crimp pliers. The team uses the Channellock version. You can get both at the big orange box.
I'd like to get the team a few DN-CT ratchet crimpers from Automation Direct,...

We broke one one year, new one went on the bot. No easy way to repair it to same as factory new condition.
Not being one to waste a otherwise perfectly good power component I cut the stud flush and...

Re: Router Problems
Ours has a really *insert long string of expletives* power connector. The thing feels like it's moving around on the PCB inside, the center pin isn't centered either.

Re: Blue vs Yellow crimp connectors
Use the proper terminal. Using to large of wire can lead to failure, will it work in a pinch, yes, good habit to get into no.
As to the current ratings on crimp it's more of a gray area then black...
