Re: pic: Another Belt-In-Tube Drivetrain
I don't think having that thin wall is an issue at all. I'd go with that.
For the correct belt thickness I made my belt drawings using the tooth heights and overall thicknesses of the belts given...

Re: pic: Another Belt-In-Tube Drivetrain
I think you'll be fine with the 1.5 tube and no flanges, good way to do it. I am more concerned about fitting the 24T pulleys in there, are you sure your belt thickness is correct? When I was...

Re: pic: OmniSwerve Pivot Top View
I believe the black portion of the CIM is steel with a black rubber coating on the outside, thus my use of rubberized.
The problem isn't the lack of concentricity, the outer casing isn't spinning...

Re: pic: OmniSwerve Pivot Top View
Yeah I would be worried about CIM diameter tolerances and the effect they would have on the gear mesh. Clamping on the aluminum ends might work but the rubberized black body is probably too variable.

Re: #25 Chain
The fixed c-c runs in our drivetrain were long by quite a bit, I think we've had a few runs were we've added as much as 50 thou. That was early on though and on runs of about 10 inches, when we first...

Re: #25 Chain
I don't have the high speed camera to investigate this but I'd be curious if this was the belt stretching or a combination of, pulley shafts deflecting under high load, the teeth on the opposite...

Re: Diagnosing Belt Skip Under Load
The problem is definitely at the small pulley. It's not simply supported so I wouldn't be surprised if the position of the pulley flexes a bit under high acceleration, not much you can do about that...

Re: pic: Team 192's 2016 Gearbox
The three major design updates of the gearbox, the inverse pneumatics, the new bearings, and the removal of the serpentine belt, have been in the works since mid '14. Mihir has done a great job...

Re: Hex broaching in thick aluminum stock
While some sort of insert would probably be better design wise I'm just going to comment on the broaching.
I've heard that it's recommend your broaching length doesn't exceed 2x your broaching...

Re: New Machine Shop
I second all of this.
If your looking into bench top CNC mills look at the Nomad 883 by Carbide 3D, for the price its the best I've seen.
With edge finders I don't see the point in digital, just...

Re: pic: Inverted CIM Gearbox V3
When calculating reaction loading of a shaft you can't ignore the tangental load. Assuming the tangental and radial load is what you calculated, the gear meshes in only one place, and the gear is in...

Re: pic: Bumper Pattern
That looks familiar. It's very similar to the pattern for the parts of team 192's bumpers from '13 and '14. We had reversible bumpers with sewn mitered corners. In '14 the cloth was a single loop...

Re: Belt-in-tube drive base
9mm wide HTD belt will certainly not be strong enough. With proper tensioning 9mm wide GT2 profile might be enough if the robots center of gravity is low. 971 has extensive experience with 9mm belts...

Re: pic: ABS-110, lightweight 2-speed PTO gearbox
I had a look at your ball shifting shaft and the shaft itself looks fine. I found it interesting that you made the shaft wall 1/8 thick so the balls can't fully engage, that might be a problem with...

Re: 1/2" Hex Shaft Bevel Gears
I would recommend going with gears from Martin Sprocket and Gear over those from Boston Gear. The Martin gears are case hardened and will wear better with heavy use. You can find their catalog here...

Re: Bevel/Miter Gear Mounting Distances
There is no way to determine the mounting distances for miter or bevel gears solely from the tooth information. The mounting distances are dependent on the shape and size of the gear's hub and should...
