Re: Noodle Throwing Strategy

I've found that practice really matters. I was throwing around a pretty beat up one for fun for about an hour. It took me about half that time to actually throw one to the other side, but now I get...

Re: is this another game hint?

Half Life 3 confirmed? Wait, that's not what we do here....

I don't know if there's anything to be read into it, except that "There will be no change to the value of CLIMBING at the FIRST...

Re: Are all girl FIRST team counterproductive to the philosophy of FIRST?

In and of itself, there's nothing wrong with an all girl team. There are many things girls do better than guys, and vice versa. I think in the long run, these teams do a good thing for the program....

Re: Upcoming Site Changes

I am of the opinion that the spotlights are a good thing to have around. Maybe there are some inside jokes in there, and maybe it's not all useful. But it's fun to go and explore in there. It...

Re: 2014 Game

I would be down with some curling. Unless I'm mistaken, wouldn't it be around the winter Olympics?

Re: Counting discs

Yah, I guess that's important... :D

But on a personal level, I still don't care who ends up winning the tiebreaker very much. Not to that extent, at least. I only care about who wins because it...

Re: Counting discs

I can't say I payed much attention at our competition, but I didn't hear any talk of false scores. I would imagine that they would only need to count if a game was close, but that's just my opinion,...

Re: Petition to end the shouting of ROBOT

Is yelling robot rude? No. Is it necessary? Absolutely not. But should it be banned? I think, if nothing else, it's a part of the culture. It's exciting when a robot is coming through! I think the...

Wires heating up

We have a CIM motor connected to a power source to continue testing our launcher and the wires are heating up. There are no other wires attached to the actual motor wires and they are warm right...

Re: What do your programmers do when programming has finished?

Yah, there's no such thing as done. Either look through the code and see how you can improve it (keeping the original as a backup, of course) or learn something new! Like TheSoftwareGuy said, knowing...

Re: robot combat league - syfy tv show

I enjoy it. It's not as cool as watching a FRC competition, but very little is. I'm really hoping it does well. While a little simplified for those of us who work with robots and (kinda) know what...

Flag help!

Last fall, our team decided to get a flag for this year. We kind of dropped the ball, so we just got the design today. Fortunately, it looks like we're going to get it in time for our competition,...

Question Computer cluster? (Not FIRST related)

First off, sorry about posting this question here, I didn't know where else to go where I could get help.

But as to the actual question: I have two computer towers running Windows XP and another...

Re: Bag & tag mistake

That's not to say that I think they should or shouldn't get penalized, but I don't think many (if any) would object either way.

Re: Bag & tag mistake

Yah, under no circumstance should a team not get to participate in one of the greatest weekends of the year just because they didn't understand something. There's enough I don't understand that I...

Re: Does your team have guidelines how to safely transport your robot ?

We normally have 2 guys on each end who are either going directly from the cart to the floor/bench/whatever or from whatever to the cart. Ideally, they don't have the robot long. And don't forget the...

Re: Power distribution board problems

When in doubt, switch it out! I think that's the best way to figure out what's going wrong. If a new one works, mark the other as second rate and move on.

Re: Final hours

Well, hopefully we'll finish our shooter in time to wire and program it...

And our drive train still needs some work...

And our electrical board is a mess...
