I'll be volunteering here as usual on Friday and Saturday.

Re: What went right?

This year's game seemed less brutal to me. I am a volunteer and I didn't pick up any parts on the field. Last year, I couldn't pick up the poof balls because I was busy picking up all the spare...

Re: VCU thank yous

I would like to thank everyone that used hand-sanitizer and practiced clean habits.

This year has been VCU's third straight year Norwalk-free. Ever since the Norwalk incident of 2004, I have been...

Re: 2007 VCU Regional

Sorry, someone must have told me wrong info. I thought they refs had told the team to take it off but I guess not?

I actually thought I remembered seeing the robot without the suction cup. Maybe...

Re: 2007 VCU Regional

That's one of the realizations one must come to in FIRST. There are some teams that build their robots strictly for defense. Last year, there was a team that only had a suction cup and they would...

Re: 2007 VCU Regional

My thoughts about this year's VCU Regional:

The game wasn't nearly as excited as last year's game. This year's game was a lot less defensive and less brutal. I am a volunteer; and this year, I...

Re: 2007 VCU Regional

TO EVERYONE THAT WILL BE ATTENDING THE VCU REGIONAL:

In 2004, almost everyone became sick with Norwalk (the norovirus). It was a very unpleasant experience.

The event will be held in a couple of...

Re: 2007 VCU Regional

So...who is excited to see the VCU's first set of Robot Triplets?

Teams 1086, 540, and 384 all seem to have collaborated this year, and I can't wait to see them all in action.

Re: 2007 VCU Regional

I'll definitely be here, but I'll be volunteering. Hopefully my team from back home will be up here again, just maybe!

Re: Building a van de graaf generator

I was trying to fix one of those in physics the other day. The long rubber band was the most stubborn thing I have ever tried to fix in my life. The rubber band slipped off the wheel and then when...

Re: Suction Device

539 was the team this year at VCU that had the suction cup.

In 2004, my team, 616, used suction cups to pick up the huge yellow doublar balls.

Re: pic: Surprise! Your crate was crushed by _____ .

I can't believe how damaged the robot is. For my old team, the regionals and championship were just the beginning. The whole life of the robot begins after that when we would show it off to...

Wow Matt, I can't believe they let you do Archimedes this year.... I bet that was interesting. (Time for another "free for all!")

Even though at Championships there are so many people and it seems overwhelming, the experience is worth it. You get to see all the robots you have seen on the webcasts and through videos/pictures. ...

I've been watching Archimedes all day, but I'll definitely be watching Newton. I know now, the winner will probably come from Newton. Those alliances are going to put on a good show. I can't wait...

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?

Here's a video of 190 in autonomous. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3809323685249382641&q=team+190&pl=true

They didn't hang on the bar until after autonomous. Everyone should watch this...

Re: 2006 Boston Regional

Yeah, I can hear the alarms going off. It's so quiet though, even with the alarm system going off. I'm so glad this didn't happen at VCU this year.

Re: 2006 Boston Regional

Does anyone know what's happening? I just tuned in to the webcast to hear the announcers telling everyone to leave the building. Is there a fire somewhere?

It keeps connecting for 20 seconds without the video and then disconnecting. I only hear music, no video though.

Re: Thanks 1279

I wish 1279 would have been at VCU this year. Last year, their robot was amazing. It had two arms and I think it was the top seeded team, maybe second? Anyway, they were a great team.

Re: If you were a volunteer...

Field reset was awesome this year. I got to see deep inside the robots for once. Even though field reset is very tiring, it's worth it in the end. Besides, there are many benefits for volunteers...

Re: Amazing robot plays

During the quarterfinals at VCU 343 and 975 ran smack into each other and both bots flipped each other at the same time. SOAP probably has the video of this, if you ever want to see it, you should...

Re: 3.2.3 Center Goal

Haha, that's what we refer to as the "ball manipulator". When the balls get jammed, we'd have to poke them with the "ball manipulator" to get them down the chute. I was assigned to this task a...

Re: How supportive is your school janitor?

This reminds me of the night of the infamous school board meeting where team 616 had to face the facts that the self centered school board cancelled the robotics team. All of the members went to the...
