Go to Post Whether or not you use wheel weights, if you're running a wheel at several thousand RPM, you'd better have an effective containment system to protect the outside world in case something spontaneously disassembles itself. - Alan Anderson [more]

Re: Analog Devices

Hi everyone! I had an interesting question pop up on GitHub that I thought might be of interest here. I also provide a bit of information on what we achieve with factory calibration and what the...

Re: Analog Devices

That's right! Shameless plug, I just updated the IMU driver to drastically reduce CPU usage in LabVIEW! Let me know if anyone has issues with it!

Re: Analog Devices

Unfortunately, the module will not be sold to teams outside of FIRST Choice. The IMUs were donated by Analog Devices to FIRST, so FIRST owns the stock currently in FIRST Choice. That being said, I'm...

Re: Battery connected backwards to robot

While reverse polarity protection is usually overlooked since it's assumed that the user should never reverse the input polarity, it's good design practice to put some safeguards in place given that...

Re: COMM lost way to many times

Can you post a picture of your robot? I'm thinking it may have something to do with radio placement. Another theory is the radio could be damaged. Have you tried swapping it out for a spare?

Re: Com wire

In a pinch, you can take apart a CAT5e cable with stranded inner conductors and use it to daisy-chain your CAN devices. Alternatively, as cheap as the cable is from CTRE, AndyMark, etc. I would...

Re: pnuematics and relays aren't working!!!

Hi! What color is the PCM light when your robot is on and has code?

Re: COMM lost way to many times

It looks like there's been a lot of discussion on the radio, breaker, connectors, etc. being the issue. I think the likely culprit here isn't the PDP, but rather the VRM.

At the NC Wake County...

Re: Batteries on AndyMark

I don't have any documented evidence on discharge rates, instantaneous current draw, internal resistance, etc. This is all purely empirical, but I have noticed that the MK batteries perform better...

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: Analog Devices FIRST Sensor Donation

Hi! You may be accessing the raw sensor outputs instead of the integrated sensor outputs. If you're using LabVIEW, you'll want to access the sensor using the Gyro Angle or AHRS Angle vi's.

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: Analog Devices FIRST Sensor Donation

Thanks for providing the part numbers! You're correct about the accelerometer providing triaxial output, but the ADXRS450 gyroscope only outputs a single axis (Z when mounted horizontally).

Great...

Re: PDP resistance

Do you have any fuses in the PDP? It may be possible that metal shavings are somehow shorting the PDP somewhere. 77 ohms is way too low of a resistance between supply rails. Keep us updated!

Re: Better gyroscope?

You're right, the ADXRS450/453 is a nice gyro core on its own! If you're looking for high VRE (Vibration Rectification Error) take a look at the ADIS16448. It has much better VRE and lower drift vs...

Re: ADXRS450 Gyro

That's correct, the ADXRS450 is a single-axis device. If you have some spare FIRST Choice points, you could pick up an IMU ;)

Re: Better gyroscope?

If your team used your AndyMark First Choice points, you should have received an FRC Gyro & Accel board with your order free of charge. This sensor should provide much better performance!

Re: ADXRS450 Gyro

Agreed, there are a few simple algorithms out there to measure tilt using 2 accelerometer axes. The ADXRS450 will allow you to measure rotation in one axis, but it will drift over time. I highly...

Re: Longer Talon SRX Data Cables

The ribbon cables aren't my preferred choice, but they work.. We just extend the wires connected to the breakout boards and use the ribbon cables sold on the CTRE website.

Re: Got Gyro drift? Try Sensor Fusion !

Hi everyone! I hate to bring up an old post, but I want to post a shout-out to the RoboBees for providing the FIRST community with an elegant AHRS implementation!

As some of you may know, I've been...

Re: Neopixels & regulators

The easiest (and for veteran teams, cheapest) way to get NeoPixels on your robot is to use an old regulator to power your LEDs and use the 5V bus from the RoboRIO to power your microcontroller....

Re: Velcro for electrical components

From what I've observed, the cheap, "fuzzy" Velcro keeps things from falling off, but doesn't keep them from moving/flexing. Since robots are expected to go over bumps and traverse rough terrain this...

Re: Velcro for electrical components

Same here, although we've been known to use a couple of zipties for heavier and more "in the way" components. I do not recommend "fuzzy" Velcro for mounting electronics.

Re: Passive POE

Just pointing this out, but it seems that this has never been illegal to begin with! Passive POE is, and has been, legal because the passive injectors are basically cable splices with nice housings...

Re: IMUs

We've used the E4P encoders for many years with great success, but they're tricky to install. It all depends on which wheelbox you're planning on using.

In theory you could use the BNO055 to...
