Go to Post Recently my wife and I met some mentors from Michigan with their wives at Disney World. It seems that I'm not the only mentor who needs to bribe their wives with vacations before they sign up to mentor FRC for another year... - Mark Holschuh [more]

Re: Colsons vs. VersaWheels vs. Treaded Traction Wheels

Oh hey, this fiction again. I wonder why F1 cars don't use small skinny tires to save weight?

That aside, traction is far from the end-all of wheel selection. Years ago, when most teams had bad...

Re: FRC T-bone-ing and Hexagonal drive

Great minds think alike, weak minds seldom differ.

The bumper sides were in three pieces of plywood, connected by a sheet metal piece. The piece was bent at the workplace of one of our mentors. At...

Re: VEXpro 2016

Probably took a while to get approval from FIRST. 1323 was testing them on their bot during Madtown Throwdown 2014.

Re: Mythical Six Week Build Season

You're advocating removing the ability to improve robots between events? Would that change make the FIRST experience reflective of an actual engineering process? I'm just an ignorant student, but I...

Re: POLL: Champions League Opt-In

If I were on a team that consistently produced high-tier robots, I'd be in favor of segregation, because we'd be able to play with other teams that are not delusional about the importance, or lack...

Re: Gearbox Design Feedback

You're gonna have a hell of a time taking those CIMs off without disassembling the entire gearbox.

Standoffs do not need to be 1/2". You have too many of them, in any case; the ones on the far right...

Re: Drugs and Alcohol - Dirty Little Secrets

Your students are doing a pretty good job of keeping their mouths shut, then.

To the OP: What exactly is the point of your post? You're not providing very many details, and you seem to have come in...

Re: Don't Ban Can Battles in Offseasons

I'd be more worried about a carbon fiber rod splintering into many pieces and flying everywhere.

Re: pic: Why aren't omni wheels like this used?

Nationwide Plastics has polycarb-polycarb at 0.52 (unspecified, but I'd guess static) and Engineering Toolbox has nylon-nylon at 0.15-0.25 (static). Polycarb-nylon might be somewhere in between. Not...

Re: pic: 2015 WC Alliance

I don't think 1678 knows either, because the graphic designer who made the current logo graduated a while ago.

Re: The Fraud of FTC Worlds - How FTC & FIRST have failed me forever.

Of course the unequivocally wrong decision was made. An injustice was committed against these teams. The people in charge made a decision that may have been in line with the letter of the rules, but...

Re: The Fraud of FTC Worlds - How FTC & FIRST have failed me forever.

Those teams received compensation, as well as acknowledgement from FIRST that the problem existed. Granted, the issues that year extended beyond Einstein.

Re: 900's Championship Cheesecaking Chronicles

But that involves assuring the complete cooperation of your alliance, which is always next to impossible. Much more efficient to just do everything yourself, especially in qualification matches, when...

Re: 900's Championship Cheesecaking Chronicles

If so, they clearly didn't playtest their game at all, because 4 points per match is not worth any programmer's time to spend on other teams' robots.

Re: The Fraud of FTC Worlds - How FTC & FIRST have failed me forever.

This is horse manure. The whole point of being an engineer is to overcome the inadequacies of nature, particularly human nature. In this case, the people in charge of the match made an error, were...

Re: The cheesecake runaway

You're all correct that the prevalence of cheesecake is not due to teams' being un-GP, but rather to the idiotically designed game they were forced to play. They did the best engineering they could...

Re: Future First Championship News

Maybe they got too caught up in the "profit" part of "FIRST the non-profit".
