Re: Pneumatics or Mecanum

I don't know why you're limiting to those two options. I think treads are worth considering if you haven't already.

In terms of those two, I would definitely say pneumatics for the same reasons...

Re: Tall or Short robot

I disagree with this assumption. Most of the time, you can do just as much with a shorter robot as you can with a taller robot. It is however, a greater design challenge. It means you need to...

Re: Defense vs tower

Personally, I'm leaning towards breaching defenses primarily. There are a lot of points there, and it seems like it would be faster than shuttling balls. However I could definitely see the arguments...

Re: Suspension and/or Tread Drive Base Questions

435 has used tread drives a lot in the past. We're big fans of it in games that involve rough terrain or a lot of opponent team interaction. Both of those elements are featured heavily in this year's...

Re: H Drive Using Omni Wheels for Stronghold?

I would also like to hear your teams argument for using an H drive with omni wheels. Personally, I think the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages of using that set up this year. I think you will...

Re: Lazy Mentor Training System

I found his really cool, and I'm happy to see you focus on the student's growth.

I would mention, that when I was a student, one of my favorite parts of FIRST (even more than building the robots)...

Re: Are all girl FIRST team counterproductive to the philosophy of FIRST?

After graduating, I started mentoring my old FRC team. I have always enjoyed teaching, and mentoring was no different. Around a year after I started mentoring, a friend of mine sent out an email...

Re: Robosub Day 3 for Falcon Robotics

Hey guys!
I'm an alumni from FRC team 435 "The Robodogs" and a mentor. I'm competing in robosub with the NC State team. I was really excited to see a FIRST team competing. I write the vision...

Re: Mecanum vs Treads

I didn't know there was so much hate for mecanums

I would like to say that my team used mecanums quite effectively in 2011 and we were able to get it to work near perfectly without...

Mecanum vs Treads

One of the biggest issues with my team right now is the debate between mecanum wheels vs treads. I was wondering what you all thought.

The proponents for treads believe it is essential for...

Re: 435 - Missing Ponies (I'm not even Joking) Please Help

Unfortunately, I'm not a brony, so i don't really know their names. I do know that many were from mcdonalds so the ponies should resemble the same kind they give out.

You're right. That volunteer...

435 - Missing Ponies (I'm not even Joking) Please Help

Team 435 likes to decorate our pit. While our robot was gone, we put our My Little Pony figurines around our pit. We had quite a bit of fun with people stopping by and talking about ponies. During...

Re: How do I pick a fly wheel?

We would love to prototype. Unfortunately, you need parts to prototype. We have little left in our budget, and our vast array of wheels are mainly misfits that aren't much use for anything. Even if...

Re: "Quotes" that were said during build season

Rookie: Maybe we should paint our robot next year?
Veteran: No. It would just wash off during the water game.
