Re: 2011 WPI Regional

Thank you 177 and 3125 for being such amazing alliance partners. I don't think I exhaled during the finals as a whole.

And uber-congrats to 228 for the chairmans!

It's was quite the adventure, and...

Re: Line Sensors

Hm, interesting. This may be it, because when I powered it off a bench supply, the swing was 0 to 10v, and went to the .4-.7 swing once we had wired it to the 'bot. I'll have to go poke around with a...

Re: Line Sensors

Well, yeah, we aren't going to use it at eight feet, we'll be using it for the gaffer's tape. However, we all thought it was pretty cool that it could do that.

Re: Line Sensors

We also found that the voltage swing in ours was not enough to swing the DIO port, as the white wire went from 0.4v to 0.7v. To fix this, we just boosted it with a power line to the white wire...

Re: Difficulty Wiring (Rookie Team) HELP US!

As for the smaller WAGO connectors, it's the same as the PD board. Just put the tip of a small screwdriver into the slot, and lever down. The connector from the PD board to the cRIO is different, as...

Re: Pneumatic Muscle

Seconded. I'll be there this year, and I'd love to see that in action. Maybe we'll see something similar on a bot.

It is optional, so far.

Re: Pneumatic Muscle

I'm also really interested in PAMs, but the control issues, and the availability, might make it hard for teams to use. That being said, I'd love to see a manipulator using these with the manual...

Re: Team Update #1

Agreed. I liked the challenge of making a bot to fit into tight restrictions. I was hoping to see some really interesting workarounds for that.
I think we still have the '07 bot in storage....

Re: Mini Bot - displeasure

I agree. I was really hoping to see some new and interesting methods of doing this. People with flywheels, surgical tube energy storage, etc.
It reminded me of that scene in Apollo 13, where they...

Re: "Quotes" that were said during build season

Discussing the 12-5v DC-DC converter at 25w, we wanted to make an anti-radar gun. This story was put forth.

Sounds like something an engineer would do.

Re: Power Converter

When we unpacked that, we all wondered "What the hell could draw 25w at 5v?". That would be quite a few LEDs...
Took me a while to realize it was for the D-Link.

Re: 2011 Minibot electronics

As per my understanding, you don't have to use the FTC kit, it just helps. Making the whole thing out of polycarb. or aluminium, using the 12v NiCd, and the lightswitches is possible, and a lot...

Re: 2011 Minibot electronics

That begs the question, can we fab our own parts? I'd love to skip the NXT controller and just build an H bridge run by a flip-flop. State 0 on it would be triggered by the "launch" command from the...

Re: Minibot Standardization (FRC 2011: Logomotion)

I think a simple scissor lift would suffice to lift the deployment platform up the the needed height (the 12in of the base or even more to the deployment line), and then drawer slides à la the...

Re: Mini-bot Ideas

In response to my previous post, I figured out the initial launch velocity needed.
Assuming:
-Kinetic minibots are allowed
-4N triggers the switch (as indicated in GM 2.2.5)
-A section of PVC around...

Re: Mini-bot Ideas

I really like the idea of a launched minibot, as opposed to one running under its own power. A section of PVC that could fit around the pole (1.75" internal diameter, 6 in long) is about 105g. Say,...

<R11> Dimension wrong?

Under R11, playing configuration, the max horizontal dimensions are stated as:

(emphasis mine)

60" (and the correct metric conversion) is listed as the starting size. 213.4 cm is just about 84",...

Re: Minibot Standardization (FRC 2011: Logomotion)

As far as deployment goes, I sketched up a rough diagram of a deployment tray that can be slid out to the pole. It has a 2"x6" rectangular notch cut into a 12" square plate to put the minibot into...

Re: 2011 Minibot electronics

Well, a 9v regulator would work, but that isn't listed on the components allowed.I find it kind of odd they don't allow basic electronics (resistors, caps, etc.) for the minibot. Correct me if I'm...

Re: 2011 Minibot electronics

It seems like one could build it without any "brains" at all. In fact, I think a KISS design with, say, a light switch turned on by the hostbot and turned off when impacting the target, rigged to a...
