Re: "Quotes" that were said during build season
The other night the programmers were trying to get the line following code to work. They had the robot up on blocks and were watching how the wheels reacted.
"Stephen why isn't it working?"
"The...

Re: Mini Bot Warning
When we practice with the minibot everyone involved wears leather gloves. We found out about the gears when someone pinched their finger while the motors were OFF.

Re: Gearing Window Motor?
Oh my, that would move something very light very fast. What are you going to do?
Anyway, I would recommend using chain and sprockets, easier than gears in my opinion.

Re: Update #3
Hmmm, so the FTC lego power switch isn't allowed? We were using that to activate the minibot motors...
Edit: oh wait it is a tetrix part, phew. Its just mounted on lego parts.

Re: usage of denso window motor
Window motors can run backwards as well as forwards. Last year we had four window motors working in tandem to winch the robot up onto the tower. Just make sure to always run them at the same speed.

Are they still doing this? I sent the link to my team facilitator, but he said that the deal was a year old and that they may not still be doing it.

FIRST Choice Discussion
So who's FIRST Choice parts have come in the mail yet? 1727's has. We got an FTC kit, the aluminum extrusion, and a Jaguar. The FTC kit will be pretty helpful for spare parts for the minibot, and...

Re: Minibot Spring?
You'd have to ask Q&A if a spring is considered Mechanical Hardware. I would just go with surgical tubing.

Re: Using a CIM to power a vacuum system?
A shop vac system is perfectly fine as long as you replace the motor with a KOP motor. A cim might be a bit over powered though, I don't know if it would run at the right speed. Might be an...

Re: 2011 Team Update #2
I believe that if we go with pneumatics, then if we end up a few pounds under the limit... AIR TANKS!

Re: 2011 Team Update #2
Hmmm, can we use ANY pneumatic storage tank? I can think of some pretty huge ones that would meet the pneumatics safety requirements.

Have you considered being team roflcopter? REX was almost roflcopter before we decided on REX.

Re: Manipulators: Claws vs rollers?
One thing we learned whether you use a claw or roller: mount the mechanism on a set of door hinges. That way even if the manipulator takes a hit, it won't deform it will just open the hinge.

Thats what I was about to say, 4 inch wheels. The kit gearboxes are geared pretty fast, so smaller wheels make better use of that speed.

Re: About the minibot
You are gonna have to be more specific about what you need to know.
There is a section of the manual all about the minibot, did you read it?

Re: Manipulators: Claws vs rollers?

An idea I had for a manipulator, it would be sprung closed with surgical tubing and the wheels spun by banebots motors.
