Re: Use of radios for communication

They don't operate on even remotely the same frequency. There would be little to no interference between the WiFi that the robots use (I believe they operate on the 5Ghz channel) and the frequency...

Re: Points tracking?

On that, you and I are in perfect agreement. It is especially difficult to do this year due to the "teamwork" factor. You can't scout or quantify intangibles.

Re: Points tracking?

Our scouting system is capable of that. We use a web app that one of the mentors/former students codes up. We have 6 students and each one scouts a separate robot. They have multiple "tickers" that...

Re: Fingerlakes Regional:2014

Can not wait for FLR to start. I'll be coming down Saturday and can't wait to see all of my favorite teams again.

FLR has always been my favorite Regional, and after the appetizer that was Buckeye,...

Re: 2014 Buckeye Regional

Does anyone have a link for a video archive of the Buckeye event?

Re: 2013 Buckeye Regional

If they hadn't picked them, we were going to. :p

On-topic though, I would just like to thank everyone on our Alliance from 706's excellent offensive capabilities to 3260's excellent all around...

Re: What's your team motto?

I'm not sure we have an official motto, but one chant we always use is; "We are WARLOCKS!"

There are however a lot more unofficial phrases and...words that we use during the build season that may or...

Question Re: CAD Team How many members

We have one mentor (myself) 1 veteran student and two rookie senior students that joined this year. They're graduating of course so next year the only guaranteed members will be our one veteran...

Re: disk image backup/recovery

Well now...that is interesting.

I can't say I have any more ideas up my sleeve that you haven't already done 10 times over. That's an interesting problem, that's for sure.

Sorry I couldn't have...

Re: Championship Dance Dares

I'm actually shocked nobody noticed. I usually have this feeling whenever someone is following that close to me. Especially if they're thrashing around like that.

Good job nonetheless.

Edit: Or...

Re: disk image backup/recovery

You can try booting into a Linux LiveCD and seeing if you can copy the files from there. If you can, copy them over to either the C: Drive or to an external. You can then use G-Parted (under the same...

Re: 2012 Lessons Learned :The Positive

I think he was referring specifically to the "Rookie" brick-bots that are just basic KoP robots meant to play defense. You definitely couldn't just do that this year because than you'd be stuck in...

Re: 2012 Lessons Learned:The Negative

Is that what happened? I was trying to figure out at FLR why so many teams had difficulty getting the bridge down. Veteran teams at that; who I knew built their own fields. That certainly explains...

Re: FIRST Championship OPR with World Ranking

Or preferably LibreOffice (http://www.libreoffice.org/) ;)

As OpenOffice is sort of deprecated after all of the developers left because of how Oracle was treating the project.

Re: 2012 Lessons Learned:The Negative

My main contention is still the lack of transparency. And unless we all went with a catapult design, it still would have been impossible to properly compensate because the balls we were provided in...

Re: 2012 Lessons Learned:The Negative

A lot of teams adjusted for having to deal with whether the ball was new or whether it was used and worn down.

What was impossible to predict (unless you're Car-Nack) was that FIRST would use...

Re: Event Averages

FLR was higher than I actually thought it was going to be.

Very glad to see that. It's always been my favorite regional. :)

Re: This Is Appalling Behavior At A FIRST Event

As you said yourself, that seems to have no effect on them ;)

I think a mentor or a student leader needs to chew them out first before their behavior changes.

Re: This Is Appalling Behavior At A FIRST Event

As said in a couple of other posts. Stuff like this is a two-fold problem. Not only are there people who are totally oblivious to the needs of those around them but you have a bottleneck affect where...

Re: This Is Appalling Behavior At A FIRST Event

That kind of behavior is unforgivable regardless of the venue. But to see that not only FIRST students but even (at least in one case) a Mentor was involved in such wanton behavior is truly...

Re: 2012 Lessons Learned:The Negative

It really was. And due to the extreme rule changes that year, you could see the drop in registrations for 1st week regionals the proceeding season. It's why we skipped FLR last year because it was a...

Re: 2012 Lessons Learned:The Negative

Our loader mechanism admittedly had some issues here and there with the new balls (something we just decided we had to deal with) compared to those that were used, but my problem (and also one raised...
