Re: Drive Coaching
Practice, practice, practice. The biggest improvement I've seen in our drivers over the past few years is the amount and quality of practice they have been getting.
Once they get reasonably...

Re: Cantilevering with Planetary Gear Motors
The spec. sheet gives the max radial load as 3.5 kgf, or around 8 lbs. So no, you shouldn't do that. You could probably get away with it if what you are designing doesn't need to last very long...

Re: Iowa Regional 2016
Alex, thanks for that data. It's really interesting to see how very different design and play styles compare. We, 1775 and Gator, 5172 couldn't have built robots much more different than they were....

Re: FMS pre match disabled mode
We had a related, possibly same issue at the GKC regional. We use LabVIEW and had coded it to read our autonomous mode from the dashboard when the robot mode was set to Auton Disabled. This worked...

Congrats 1806, 4522, and 932. We had a great time playing against you guys.
Thanks 1296 and 3507. 1296 stacks like crazy and we felt super fortunate to get a can grabber in 3507. Up close, that...

Re: Encoders for 2015 Season
We have never used the ones linked in the OP, but I did mount a couple for a preseason project and didn't like them at all. Too many things to go wrong. I like...

Re: Inclusion in FIRST
I pretty much like all of what Frank said, but especially this. Creating the culture takes time but the payoff is huge. An issue can be addressed as a team problem, not just the problem of the one...

Re: Inclusion in FIRST
Lodging of out LGBTQ students. This has not come up yet for our team and I had not thought about it. I'm going to have to work up a plan for this. Any suggestions?

Re: Inclusion in FIRST
I also think this needs to be largely mentor driven. Personally, I dislike the cosmetic approach of putting up "You go girl" posters or the like. I understand it can help initiate a change, but I'm...

Re: 2014 Greater Kansas City Regional
For 1775, more than our money's worth. It's been a while since we made it to the finals so this was especially satisfying for us. Congratulations to 1986, 118, and 1723 on the win, and thanks for...

Re: [DFTF] Building the Brand
Joe,
First off, welcome back.
I'm going to fall into the 'brand is really important' camp here. I have two points. First, I think the most important thing is to establish a brand identity and then...
