Re: Rover wheels on carpet?

Shouldn't take much longer than ~45mins tops, and it's perfectly reversible.

Though I just suggest protecting all open connections. It's a bad idea to have things exposed regardless of static risk....

Re: crab drive vs. mecanum drive system

Alright, I'll give you that.

But this is FRC, where we need to keep weight, simplicity, and practicality in mind. Not to mention, the inevitable increase in flex (solid axle to frame members vs....

Re: Tips on Keeping Parts Shiny

I don't think that's a really viable solution for most teams. :D

Re: crab drive vs. mecanum drive system

^ Words of sense.

Mecanum is simple to build (well, compared to Crab/Swerve), but the more complicated programming and driver training is one turn off, and the lack of traction is another. If...

Re: Bumper Attachment for Rapid Removal

Idea for preventing that, taken from race cars;

http://www.irvansmith.com/scart/hood-pin-cable-24-p-347.html?utm_source=googprod&utm_term=HOD-2001

Something like that. Thin cable, one side with the...

Re: Bumper Attachment for Rapid Removal

There's two good ways to do this that I can think of.

The first is if you have a reasonably solid frame, 1/4in thick or more, solid bar chassis (like 675 uses... a lot...). You could have matching...

Re: non-'FRC legal' control systems?

Motorshield v3 is what I was looking at.

Re: non-'FRC legal' control systems?

Seeing as how I'm a complete knob when it comes to electronics, yes, I would like a convenient three pin header for a PWM cable. I'll probably be feeding two PWM outputs to two Victor 884s, so.

How...

Re: non-'FRC legal' control systems?

I was thinking Arduino because when I'm done with my senior project, I can cannibalize it and use the Arduino for come other really cool stuff.

What shield or module would I use to be able to...

Re: were there robot related injuries on your team?

After getting my hair caught in a power drill, I've become increasingly more afraid of the lathe.

A power drill you can stop quickly.

A lathe, you can't.

Re: were there robot related injuries on your team?

Resurrecting this thread with my own stupidity.

I was drilling some aluminium angle pieces for a quick mockup of our field. Had a hand-held dewalt power drill. My hair wasn't pulled back. Suddenly...

non-'FRC legal' control systems?

Before I get any flak for this -- no, 675 isn't planning on building our own control system.

My senior project involves motors and I'm already somewhat familiar with robot control systems, but if I...

Re: Wheel Wear

If you guys want a good surface to test on, I suggest some clean tile flooring that is in most schools inside. We had a sample of off-brand regolith and compared it to our tile flooring and got...

Re: Have Orbitz Balls, Will Sell.

$10 at walmart, yes, but if this team is offering them for less I'd see no reason to get them here while you can.

All depends on their price.

Us, well, we probably won't need anymore, as it seems...

Re: pic: Legal Bumper Configuration?

The bumper configuration is legal from what I understand, however the indentation which is presumably to help keep the trailer controlled isn't legal.

Both of these are assuming I've read the rules...

Re: Hours

I feel your pain. In 2006 we had maybe three or four people consistently working on the robot. In 2007 that grew by like, three. I'm pretty sure we didn't have mentors very often if at all in '07....

FRC robot programming isn't too difficult (well, don't know about this year, but to give you an idea: I'm pretty much the drivetrain leader this year and I did chassis the past two years and I was...

Re: Coefficient of Friction on Carpet?

The traction gain is almost negligible.

our raw data:
14lb dynamic (wheels slipping) pull, 60lb robot, 4wd, "smooth/regolith/etc"
16lb dynamic (wheels slipping) pull, 60lb robot, 4wd,...

Re: Conveyor Belt

I'm sure there's a number of ways you could do it, but the easiest to do (probably) would be just "standard" treadmill/conveyer belt material... I don't know what it's called but it's almost always...

Re: pic: Our Robot of Masterpiece

No new controller because Programming has their hands on it and this isn't the Programming testbed, it's the Manufacturing testbed.

4 CIMs because we didn't want to worry about taking one of them...
