That's got a lot of truth to it. Apparently a few years before I joined my team, EVERYTHING was voted on, from how many pins to buy to what kind of robot to build. Alumni tell me that it was terrible, and that we're so much more organized now. What we do now is pretty much exactly what you described. Have you told your mentor your view on this?

I can see where he's coming from in the sense that kids like to feel that they should have a say in the robot decisions, but reality says otherwise: factory workers don't get to decide what the new Chevy Volt looks like, even though they're the ones making the car.
