It looks like my understanding is correct, then: you can both be in contact and stay in contact the entire time...
Indeed, you can contact the POLE (below the DEPLOYMENT LINE) before the END GAME, as long as your MINIBOT doesn't break the plane of the BASE, wait for the END GAME to start, DEPLOY your MINIBOT across the plane and onto the POLE, and then either remain in contact with the POLE or not, as is your preference...
