FWIW, if set up properly, you won't have to worry about losing a limit switch. We used 3 of them in 2008, and all 3 are still working just fine! Typically speaking, we use limit switches to tell us when a mechanism reaches a hard mechanical stop - the switch is set up such that it's impossible for the mechanism to push the arm too far or damage it in any way.
