Re: pic: 2011 Frame

Thanks for all the compliments.

My team is blessed in that our extremely generous sponsor (they do welding, machining, buy and give us materials, allow us to use there facility if needed, provided mentors, and basically whatever we need) asked if they could paint the robot once they finished welding it. it only added about half of a day to the turnaround from us getting them the design to us getting it back.

Looks good, does this fancy enamel add any weight comparatively speaking? How exactly was it applied?
This frame was just painted as far as I know and it is pretty easy for us to touch up if we have to. It is just some fancy enamel that does something to the light. Our sponsor said it is used on military stuff in order to make it so that it cannot be as easily seen or something like that. I just think it looks awesome but it has some fancy purpose I think.
This paint doesn't add any noticeable additional weight compared to powder coating but it does have a really different texture.

(I do find it strange though that you powdercoated your first iteration of your bot. That is one generous sponsor.)
When I say first iteration I mean its one of 2 different (swerve and mecanum) versions of our final robot, this is for our mecanum robot. Our swerve robot may or may not be used because the modules keep getting delayed in manufacturing. and yes we have very generous sponsors. We have been lucky enough to have our robot powdercoated for the past 3 years (last year a different sponsor recieved the frame on a saturday morning and gave it back to us like at 1:00 that afternoon).

Wow, the frame looks great! It definitely does have that CAD look to it though, I was convinced it was just a render with an outdoor background at first.
That was my first reaction which is why I posted it. It is so weird (and awesome) every picture we take of it has the same effect.

But again thanks for all the nice comments. I will try to post pictures as we assemble the robot.
