I would recommended listening to your mentors. I had a similar problem in which I preferred using c++ to lab-view but our mentor was goddess like with lab-view. Even though I was more proficient in c++ I decided to go with lab-view because my mentor could help me a whole lot more. So far this year, I believe I made the right decision.
