If I understand the problem correctly, the adapter does fit, but it's falling off.
This is the normal situation for the adapter. there are many solutions to this, ours is to tap the metal axle in the center of the motor, and screw in a bolt with a washer to keep the adapter in.
it's a quick and easy solution, but if you overtighten and have the motor running in the direction that will unscrew the bolt, it might be trouble.
LockTite or similar is advised.
