Sensors

Ok I need a clarification on the wiring of the sensors working with the default autonomous programming. I've seen it that it assumes the white wire is used, but in the Line Following tutorial from labview it shows the sensors showing
F F T when the farthest right is over the line. But the white shows 0 voltage when it is over the tape 20 when it is over the carpet. Doesn't that mean it is returning T T F instead of F F T or does the orange light mean it is returning true even though it is not returning the voltage? Do we have to use the black wire for the default autonomous code because that would work with the tutorial information.
