Conversely, the tetrix gearbox is actually an interesting choice to reduce power output of a motor so that it spins slower without the need to add additional stages. So long as the torque load is nominal, the inefficiency can be used this way. It's like the Robowranglers using 4 traction wheels on the corners of their nonadrive as an advantage.
We have roughly 20 burned out motors from FTC seasons past (4 teams for 3 years now) so maybe we'll muck with this in the offsesaon. Our main offseason project will be custom gearbox design and fabrication, so it should fit right in.
