1) Judges have no authority on whether components are legal.
2) Inspectors (one of those is who you were referring to, I think) can say stuff is illegal on the robot. HOWEVER, if the RULES clearly say that you can use a part and the inspector says you can't, the rules win.

If this happens at your regional, call for the Lead Robot Inspector and show them the rule. As far as I'm concerned, it's a legal part.

P.S. Scrimmage inspectors do get stuff wrong. Ask me about that sometime.
