Re: 2011 SPBLI Regional

I thought it was a great Regional all around.

Robotigers from NJ were #1 seed and chose another "out of town" team as their first pick (229 Division by Zero). I'd like to think that they were surprised at the level of competition they received from the local Long island teams.

Lots of enthusiastic folks in the stands, especially during the elimination rounds.

I personally thought the best rounds of eliminations were in the semi-finals as the scores were closer and the game was neck and neck all the way.

The 3 rookie teams that attended all went away with awards. 2 of them did not look like rookies at all. 3460 from Brentwood was hanging tubes in autonomous which was sort of un-rookie like. The other rookies had similar performance as well.

Team 329, the Raiders from Patchogue-Medford won the Chairmans award for their second time. Nice work!!

Teams 870 and 353 shared their mini-bots with a few other teams. As a matter of fact 353, the PoBots had 2 of their mini-bots in the elimination rounds even thought they were already out of the competition.

I know there's more highlights from the weekend and hopefully others will add to this list.

Oh, one more thing. Lots of great pics and some videos at www.msgvarsity.com and also at www.newsday.com
