Re: 2011 Colorado Regional

We enjoyed making new friends in Colorado and renewing a few old ones. Congratulations to 2996 on the WFFA, Dean's List Finalist, and Chairman's Award. You have an incredible organization, and the awards are a testament to the quality of the program. You had an impressive bot in KC, and the improvements you made for Colorado made it one of the top 3 bots at the regional according to our scouts. Good luck at the Championship Event.

A big thanks to our alliance partners in helping us win the regional. 624 was a great partner whose only loss was to us in our closest qualification match of the competition. It was fun to see both mini-bots go up simultaneously throughout elims. It was often down to miliseconds on who came in first and second each time. Thanks for the green hair. You added a lot of spirit and enthusiasm which helped to bond our alliance.

2972 was a steal with the final pick. Even though you were ranked 39th out of 43 teams our scouts determined you were exactly what we needed, and they were right. Your fast, robust, and maneuverable drive train allowed you to play excellent defense, and that was a big key to our success.

This was the first year that Colorado was webcast, and for those who didn't get to see it there are some fantastic teams that participate here every year. A few notes of potential interest for other teams:
  • We experienced the tube overinflation issue that others had mentioned earlier. We had to widen the jaws of our gripper on Friday morning to accomidate. Of course it now grips better than ever.
  • 624 had a minibot that didn't trigger in one elimination match. It did not affect the match, but I'm still a little uneasy about entrusting so many points to a system which appears to have a random element to it. Our mini-bot did trigger the FMS everytime it went up.
  • We didn't pull any parts off our robot before we bagged it for Champs. That gives us the full 30 lbs with-holding to bring in a little something special. The crew will be working hard to make the most of it.
