Good explanation, Kevin. I have a few more notes. The following 3 Event codes are artifacts of the 3 regionals in Michigan before the District System:
Code:
dt Detroit Regional Detroit MI District
mi West Michigan Regional West Michigan MI District
gl Great Lakes Regional Michigan State Championship
These 3 prior regionals is the reason MSC has 18 qualifying spots for Championship. MSC is the only event that can ensure that some of its qualifying spots are filled by a team going to Championship. If a team that is already registered for Championship is in the top 9 of reamining point totals (after the 9 award qualifiers), that spot is then offered to the team with the next highest points in the FiM rankings (at other regionals, this unused spot is offered to the general waitlist). At least that is how I understand the 9 remaining qualifying spots based on the last few years.
Also, Waterford (OC1) is the only event code with a "1" included in it. Other event codes in the same area use a 2 (MN2, ON2, WA2). As a computer engineer, I can understand indexing arrays using starting at zero, but the inconsistency between the 4 events confuses me. MN2 (North Star) started in 09 while the rest are new this year, so Waterford should be OC2 for consistency. When you generate OPRs and use frclinks.com & twitter hashtags as much as I do, the event codes become second nature/shorthand.
