I too was surprised how little they used from Dean's interview. Of all the lines he has used over the years, I for one always like the "every student on every team can turn pro." Such a unique fact/selling point, but it didn't make the final cut.
While I'm always annoyed when journalists modify, twist, or omit facts to fit a story, I still think (as a whole) it was a great piece and a great message.
