Re: Bike Commute Design Essay

As I stated in the survey, the biggest negative factor for me has been the availability of quality commuting bikes, bike components, and clothing. I bike to work everyday even in bad weather, but have needed to address the problems myself. Hobbyist bicycling is so big here that the serious biking community does not get much attention. It would be great to see Stronger, heavier bike frames and racks. Heavier and more reliable tires. Bike clothing that really keeps you dry in the rain and is made with lots of pockets. Good quality lights that do not cost so much because someone thought they should look cool and be light weight. And how about a panier that does not cost $100, is waterproof, and easy to open and close. The whole bike market seems to be centered around addressing the bike hobbyist, and serious bikers are too small a market to address.
