Always test drivetrain code with the robot on blocks first, just in case you've got your directions backward. Take similar precautions with your non-drivetrain systems.
Make sure everyone is standing somewhere safe when you test (not where an arm is going to whack them if you've made a mistake

).
Work in bite-sized chunks at first. It's easier to troubleshoot a complex scenario if you work up to it, rather than jumping straight into the whole thing. Baby steps.
