On a more serious note we had a few issues with the KOP gyro mainly drift and other wierdness, dunno if it was stock code or what but on occasion our robot felt like it was spinning at 5 rads a second.

If you are looking at non-frc gyro then what about one used in R/C helicopters?
Check if both of your speed controllers have the jumpers in the right configuration. One year, we had that problem, I thought it was just the chains or something. But it turns out one speed controller was configured to "brake" and the other to "coast".
