I forgot to post this data earlier.
This is based on 2011 event attendance only, so teams that dropped in at an event for a single season are included. For a better picture I should only have counted teams that attend regularly, e.g., the last two years.
Two MAR teams traveled for every non-MAR team that traveled to the PA/NJ Regionals.
"Travel" is a loose term, since in some cases the distance involved was as short as the width of the Hudson river or the 25 miles from PA to Baltimore.
Mid-Atlantic events will lose 25 outside teams this year (# teams and % of all teams at the event):
- (15) - 24.6% of teams who attended the NJ Regional
- (10) - 17.9% of teams who attended the PA Regional
Outside events will lose 51 slots formerly filled by MAR teams.
The biggest impact will be from the loss of MAR teams close to NYC and Baltimore:
- (16) - 24.2% of all teams at NYC
- (12) - 20% at Chesapeake
- (8) - 12.7% at DC
- (4) - 6.3% at VA
- (2) - 3.5% at CT
- (2) - 4% at LI
- (2) - 3.8% at Midwest
- (2) - 3.4% at Orlando
- (1) - 2.3% at Finger Lakes
- (1) - 1.9% at Boston
- (1) - 2.3% at SC
