Aluminum is 35% of the weight of an equivalent volume of steel.
In 2007 we saved roughly two pounds per transmission over the use of steel gears. We also used delrin sideplates, piston mounts, and shift shaft-piston bearing blocks so the savings due to aluminum are probably a little less.
