We can sort of adjust distance by changing the time the solenoid is open for.
We got the valve from MAC. I would say that this isn't such a specialized application that the exact valve we used needs to be used.
I would encourage teams wanting to create something similar to research what's out there. We picked the valve we used for a number of reasons, safety being the primary concern. Even if the exact part number does not exist anymore there are countless functionally identical valves out there.

How do you manage pressure between tanks (how do you keep one tank at 150 psi?), pressure regulators are pretty expensive when you deal with ~3000 psi.
How many shots can you get off with one tank at 150psi?
