It depends on what we're prototyping. Last year we used wood on our original claw prototypes but switched to aluminum for the last revision(s).
We don't really use PVC that much, unless we're thinking about using it on the finished bot(haven't since 2008).

The kOP frame helps a lot for prototyping; however, if you planning on using a kOP frame for competition then i would wage against it and use wood when you can.
