You can indeed request individual JPEGs. The M1011 doesn't seem to have a great framerate with that technique, so setting up an MJPG stream at the requested rate doesn't necessarily waste bandwidth, especially if you shutdown the stream when you no longer need it.

We have the Axis 206, how is the frame rate for grabbing individual JPEGs from it? Also, to grab images we would use something similar to this, possibly with a different resolution?
