Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at the Autodesk Oregon Regional/Seattle Regional

Hi, I’m Navid Shafa, proud FIRST Alum from Skunkworks Robotics FRC #1983, and currently a freshman at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, AZ.

I am excited to announce that Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) will once again be visiting both the Autodesk Oregon Regional and the combined Seattle regional. As in prior years, your Pacific Northwest Admissions Director will be at our table to talk to you about our school and the opportunities available to you. I am honored that I will be able to join her at the Autodesk Oregon Regional this year.

I am currently a freshman studying Mechanical Engineering in the robotics track and can’t say enough about how amazing my experience has been. As a FIRST alum, I had the privilege to apply for the ERAU FIRST scholarship. Not only does Embry-Riddle recognize and understand the merits of FIRST robotics on an application, you will have a chance to apply for the ERAU FIRST Robotics Scholarship to recognize you for your contribution to FIRST and your team.

I could have gone a lot of places for college, I could have been stuck in a giant institution and I could have slogged through four years of being just a number in an 800 student lecture hall, but at Embry-Riddle: I’m a person.

I have been in classes with less than 30 students on average, I get to work hands on in lab and participate in class activities. Last semester, we had several robotics competitions in my Engineering 101 class with Lego Mindstorms. I’ve designed simple video games in my MATLAB computer programming course and I’ve got to work on circuit boards in my Digital Circuits class. I love the small school size, I love being able to talk to my professors and I love being able to contribute to the class. As a FIRST member, Embry-Riddle was the perfect fit for me. I’m able to pursue my interest in robotics, expand my knowledge in relevant classes, study along many other engineering enthusiasts like myself, all while pursuing my goals and working towards achieving my dreams.

I hope you will think about Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, both Clancy and I look forward to seeing you at the competition!
