First, you quoted Dave Lavery, program executive for solar system exploration at NASA. Beside that, he's got a wicked sense of humor. Don't flip out
too much.
Now, isn't the purpose of FIRST to
inspire students? If everyone who joined the program already knew everything and had an solid interest in science and technology, the impact of the program would be nonexistant. That's not the case, obviously.
Instead of wasting your energy on getting annoyed with these people and how you perceive their intention, why don't you try focusing on teaching them something?
Not everyone is receptive to new things. Some people, like me, are amazingly stubborn. It doesn't mean we're not worth the effort.
Open up.
