Although it seems somewhat confusing, the values you put into the motor drive are joystick "x" and "y" values. So to go forward, set the "y-axis" value to a positive number, and "x-axis" value to zero. To turn, (assuming you are using arcade drive) set the "x-axis" value to a positive number to turn right, a negative number to turn left.
