Your site looks pretty good so far but you might want to go with a website builder like blogger and webs because you can actually learn a ton while keeping your website and template looking pretty good. After using one of those for awhile then you probably to go back to your own template and stuff.
I would try to include some nice gadgets along with the site itself. Some pretty cool ones you could get from would be widget box or other providers.
