I am having the same issue (I am trying to update the jags firmware to be able to use the auto ramp feature). I have connected it, but when I run BDC-COMM it does not recognize that there is a jaguar hooked up, but if i plug it into the other port (which is the opposite of what was linked earlier tells you to do) then it displays everything as 0 and when I try to update firmware it displays the before mentioned error).

The only thing I can think of that would cause this is that it says to use BDC-COMM.exe but the only thing I found to download (after a long time searching ti.com) was bdc-comm-92.exe
