Being an old text-based programmer myself, I feel your pain. One thing you need to wrap your head around is that much of the time you don't *need* variables. The data wires take care passing data around, and you don't really have to store most data items. There certainly are times when you need variables -- local or global -- but not as much as you might think. Or, at least, not as much as I originally thought.

Keep writing programs; don't limit yourself to things that go on your robot. Like any programming language, the only real way to learn LabView is to write programs. There's a lot of help available out there, but you still have to actually program.
