While the NI equipment was designed for heavy lifting (except the Sidecar, which I compare to being as strong as a wet piece of newspaper in a hurricane) the routers have always been mucking it up. Every single part in the KOP except for the computer and router are things you can't find under the "home and small business" tab at Best Buy (obvious exaggeration, but you get it). In a building full of techies, there will be smartphones and hotspots you cannot stop, and they will be causing interference that is utterly unpredictable and can cause a whole host of errors.
I can't provide you with a grand solution at 1am, but I do know that we have gotten all kinds of positive feedback from NI; I feel like they are working to make the best products for our robots. In the case of the routers, it feels like FIRST struck a deal with a mediocre product and moved on with it. I hope and imagine that isn't the case, but it feels like it. I don't think D-Link feels pressured in the slightest to generate a solution.
