Double Regional would be where Two fields are set up in the same arena, and two different Regionals are taking place. 2011 GTR west and east were both held in the Hershey Center, and they would play matches on one field while the other field is being reset.
Another thing I saw (at my very first ever regional - GTR 2006) was the same regional having two fields. I don't believe they do this anymore. But you could be playing on either field, and it was only one regional. It got pretty confusing though so I think that is why they stopped doing those. The nice thing was that there was almost always a match being played.

Well this just sucks! I know that this is the one Regional we WILL be attending. The Ten hour drive is worth trying to get back to back regional wins in Smoky Mountains, the atmosphere at this regional was amazing, I would recommend going to Knoxville to anyone. It was cool being the team that everyone came to for advice, we helped out a lot of teams while we were there and we hope that helps them all become more competitive in the future!

There is never really a specific date. FIRST has to get all contracts and such done before they release the Regional lists for the year. You should expect it to come out in September or at the latest early October.
