If I'm clear, that's not the case in the FRC framework as long as you pass the error out of your SubVI. Which makes this an ideal system to send warning and faults to the diagnostic window.
In most (or maybe all) of the WPI Robotics library VIs is a big case structure connected to the error input. The real code is in the false case (to execute if there isn't an error being passed in). The true case is basically empty. This is what the online write-ups are describing.
