I'm on the MSOE CARD team, and I can say that you will probably never see aerial robots in FRC. Unless you run a remanufactured kit there's just way to much work to make a reliable and safe vehicle.

At the 2011 CARD demo I think only 1 or 2 of the 12 teams successfully flew a custom built aerial vehicle, and they had since at least October to plan and build it.

FYI, yes CARD (now CAR) still exists. There will be a preseason event at UW-Platteville 9/28-9/29, and the official competition late spring 2013 at MSOE.
