I know it's easy to take pot shots while not participating, and I'm sorry. But to call 1218 the "easy pick" in that situation suggests you did little to no research on the other teams competing at Hatboro-Horsham. 103, 222, 357, and 2590 were all available then, and there are convincing arguments for each of them to be picked ahead of 1218. I'm not saying 1218 was necessarily the wrong pick, as they are strong contenders both on the field and in the various awards categories (including Chairman's), but the difference between them and several other competitors is razor thin.

103:
A FIRST Hall of Fame team with a tremendous amount of success on the field. Has taken home at least one trophy from their last nine regional/district competitions.
Orlando regional semi-finalists (#3 selection)
Lenape district semi-finalists (#2 selection)
Mount Olive district finalists (#1 selection)
Reached regional finals (won or lost) in 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011
Division finalists in 2003 and 2011
Won Championship Chairman's Award in 2003

222:
One of the most competitive and consistent teams in Pennsylvania for a long time. Captained an alliance (with 1218 on it) to Einstein in 2009.
Won Mount Olive District (#3 selection)
Chestnut Hill District Finalists (#3 selction)
MAR Championship semi-finalists (#6 selection)
Also reached a regional finals (win or lose) in 2003, 2004, 2007, 2009, and 2011.

357:
A strong competitor for several awards and on the field. Coming off of a very strong 2012 season, including beating 1218 in the Washington DC finals.
Hatboro-Horsham finalists (#3 selection)
Chestnut Hill quarter-finalists (#4 selection)
Washington DC winners (#2 selection)
MAR Championship quarter-finalists (#3 selection, not counting declines)
3x Imagery Awards in 2012
Won Chairman's Awards in 2003 and 2006
Won Engineering Inspiration Awards in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2011
Won regionals in 2008 and 2012

2590:
Doesn't have the track record of the others, but is blossoming into a very strong team and had a terrific season last year.
