They will have only contacted level 0. You can't fail at touching in succession if you only ever touch one zone. It works as long as the robot being lifted doesn't touch the pyramid during the lift, by my interpretation.
Another issue to consider is to make sure you stay under 84" tall during the lift.

You are correct that they will have only contacted level zero, and aren't in violation of any rules. However, points are only awarded for CLIMBS, and CLIMBS require sequential
contact. Therefore, they would get no points, even if they are above 60".
At least this is my interpretation, since the definition of CLIMB specifically says "contact". A Q&A would clarify.
