Have you installed both the LV update and the Utilities Update?
Most importantly, have you rebooted since the install?
I had issues on my XP laptop this year, and in previous years, if I didn't reboot first.

Yeah, did all that.
One of the WatchDog vi's seems to be upsetting my laptop when I try to create a new project, or open a sample project with crio code in it.
It's actually fun (not) trying to figure out how to cause Windows 8 to actually shut down
