Some suggestions:

At 5:36 in the video, you might want to slip a properly-sized deep socket over the motor shaft and tap on the socket to drive the pinion on, instead of tapping on the edges of the pinion gear. Check frequently to make sure the key is aligned with the keyway in the pinion.

Also use a deep socket to tap on the gear at 2:36 in the video.

At 4:22 in the video, don't forget to grease the first-stage gear too.
