wow.......
On team #48 Delphi ELITE there are 51 students on our roster and i think there are 12 girls. Just because we are girls doesn't mean that we don't get dirty and surly doesn't mean that we can't run any machine in our wood or metal shop.I myself am a female SR on my team which I am in charge of the AV-photo team, ASFAB Team (Assembly and Fabrication), and I'm the machine shop specialist. You can always find me in the shop getting my hands dirty, but I'm not sure that all of the girls follow my lead. Our team is almost always male dominated in every aspect. I think girls need to get interested and personally I don't think it has anything to do with the guys that are involved, because I'm seriously been crushing over a very computer nerd geek from a Delaware team (he knows who he is), and I personally don't think I'm a dog by any means, so there you have it. What needs to be done is you guys need to go out into your school and let girls know what opportunities there are out there and make sure you bring them in and show them how things work. Everyone that is interested will learn if someone will take the time and help them. Engineering is a male dominate field, which doesn't really appeal to all girls just for that fact. I on the other hand have always gone against the grain, be it that I play pick up hockey (roller) with 20 some guys that are twice my size and about 5-14 years older then me. You have to make this program welcome and user friendly to girls. That doesn't mean parts wise, it means you guys need to dig your heads outta the gutter and help these girls!!
